Second Year ECT Events

Second Year ECT
Events and Clinics

Our in-person and online events are essential to your success on the programme. Facilitated by our experienced team, you will actively take part in learning that will support your progress across your induction.

What are clinics?
Clinics aim to provide you with the opportunity to apply the knowledge gained from the ECT programme to a typical teaching problem (a problem faced by all teachers regardless of context or experience). This is to support you to consider what good practice is likely to look like, and how you might address this typical problem in your own context.

As part of the clinic, you are introduced to underlying features (components that can be applied across all subjects, phases or settings, and are a guide for what good practice is likely to look like) and you will see these exemplified across a range of scenarios. This will give you the opportunity to analyse these underlying features of good practice across contexts, and then begin to apply these underlying features to your own practice too.

Second Year Launch Conference - Thursday 19th September

Thursday 19th September

Clinic 4 - Wednesday 11th November

Wednesday 13th November
3:30pm - 5:00pm
Online Session - Click here to join

Why is this session important?
Clinic 4 focuses on working with others. Effectively working with others is an essential part of supporting pupil well-being and progress, but conversations can sometimes be challenging, particularly when people hold differing views.

Clinic 4 will therefore help you answer the question: ‘how can I hold effective conversations with a range of people to support pupil well-being, motivation and progress?’ You will read and discuss several scenarios set across a range of contexts, exemplifying conversations with people such as teaching colleagues, SENCOs, DSLs, TAs and parents.

Prior to this session you may wish to complete the optional pre-reading, which can be found at the start of the clinic workbook. This reading details some of the theory underpinning the content of the clinic and the wider topic of pupil wellbeing.

Clinic 5 - Wednesday 12th March

Wednesday 12th March
3:30pm - 5:00pm
Online Session - Click here to join

Why is this session important?
Clinic 5 focuses on effective literacy teaching. Teachers all have a responsibility to support pupils to develop high levels of literacy and we know that Literacy underpins academic success in every subject and is fundamental for building fulfilling careers and rewarding lives. Nonetheless, literacy teaching can be complex and challenging and it is important to do it meaningfully.

This clinic will help you to answer the question ‘how can teachers meaningfully support all pupils to develop high levels of literacy?’. In the clinic, you will read and discuss several scenarios across a range of contexts, analysing the ways in which the underlying features support the effective teaching of literacy.

Prior to this session you may wish to complete the optional pre-reading, which can be found at the start of the clinic workbook. This summarises the components of literacy and will ensure that you have a foundational understanding of some of the key ideas that will be exemplified within the clinic scenarios.

Clinic 6 - Wednesday 2nd July

Wednesday 2nd July
3:30pm - 5:00pm
Online Session - Click here to join

Why is this session important?
Clinic 6 focuses on implementation- the process of making a change to give it the best chance of success. It will help you to answer the question, ‘how can I make effective, long-lasting changes to my teaching practice?’. Studying the process of implementation is mandatory for all teachers and leaders completing an NPQ, and this clinic will provide you with a practical introduction to this topic.

Prior to this session you may wish to complete the optional pre-reading, which can be found at the start of the clinic workbook. This summarises the key research insights into the implementation framework and how to influence change. This is to ensure you have a foundational understanding of some of the key ideas that will be exemplified within the clinic.
